Bella Hadid Shuts Down Body Shamers Calling Her Too Thin

Bella Hadid isn't here for people leaving negative comments on her latest Instagram post. The 22-year-old model took to the social media platform to share her excitement about participating in the upcoming Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, writing, "I can’t wait for you to see all of the beautiful outfits ...I'm so grateful to be a part of the show again, feeling happier and healthier than ever."
It wasn't long after Bella shared a series of five photos of herself in black lingerie that she was body shamed for being too thin. “Skin and bone. That second page is quite frankly disturbing," one person wrote. "I have nothing against being slim but this is unhealthy on so many levels. Shame on [Victoria's Secret] for encouraging and promoting this totally unrealistic image. We must put an end to the concept of looks = value."
Another follower commented, "I will never understand why bones protruding through skin is considering beautiful."
While Bella didn't respond to each and every comment directly, she updated her original caption to address the backlash. She added a note, saying, "all body types are different and react differently to a great workout routine and a healthy diet."
Victoria's Secret has come under fire in recent years because the company consistently only casts thin models for their annual fashion show. While supporting body-size diversity in the show's line up is certainly a worthy cause, attacking individual models for their looks is definitely not okay. At the end of the day, Bella Hadid is a person just like anybody else. Next time you're thinking about body shaming somebody, remember the golden rule of the Internet: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't leave an Instagram comment.
