Amazon suffers Data breach ahead of cyber-monday

Online retail giant Amazon has been hit with a major data breach ahead of one of the busiest shopping days of the year, with names and email addresses of customers posted to its website.

Customers affected by the glitch were emailed by Amazon, but the online retailer refused to say how many of its customers were affected by the data breach. The breach was not a hack, but rather a technical issue that inadvertently posted customer's names and email addresses.

In a short statement emailed to the customers who were affected, Amazon said they have fixed the glitch and there was no need for people to worry or change their passwords.

According to the email customers received: "Our website inadvertently disclosed your email address or name and email address due to a technical error. The issue has been fixed. This is not a result of anything you have done, and there is no need for you to change your password or take any other action. The impacted customers have been contacted."

"Amazon takes all security-related matters very seriously and your account security is our top priority. We have policies and security measures in place to ensure that your personal information remains secure."

The data breach occurred just days before the biggest shopping days of the year for Amazon, known as "Cyber-Monday."
