Everyone go home, someone has finally won the "Storage Wars."

Dan Dotson, the auctioneer who best known for his appearances on the A&E reality show "Storage Wars" says he was at a charity event in Indio, California earlier this month when a woman approached him with a story about what her friend found after winning a storage unit auction for $500.

The woman told Dotson that a friend of hers bought a storage unit from him in October in Southern California for $500 and incredibly, among the items in the storage shed was $7.5 million in cash.

“It was an amazing story,” Dotson told The Desert Sun as he recalled the exchange. “She said, ‘I just gotta tell you this story, my husband works for a guy that bought a unit from you and there was a safe in there.'”

According to Dotson, "She says, ‘there was a safe in the unit. The first guy couldn’t open it, so they called a second guy and there was $7.5 million,’ and I say ‘$7.5 million?’ and she says, ‘Cash.’"

Dotson didn't share the woman's name, citing concern for her privacy and safety.

When the original owners of the shed learned they had lost their storage locker, they had an attorney contact the new owner to try and reclaim the money. The attorney representing the original owner of the storage unit initially offered the woman $600,000 of the $7.5 million in cash, but eventually agreed to $1.2 million, returning the rest.

In video posted to YouTube, Dotson and his wife recounted the story and showed off the bags of cash that were found in the unit, asking their followers what they might do if they found the money.

“Who knows, but this happens all the time and it’s the modern-day treasure hunt,” Laura Dotson said.

Dan Dotson says he'll be telling this story for the next 20 years.
