Christmas came a little early this year! Slate to premiere on Dec. 19th, two songs from the highly anticipated Mary Poppins Returns were just released and they are magical. Both Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda sound practically perfect in every way, of course.
The first song features Miranda on "Trip A Little Light Fantastic," which will remind fans of "Step in Time" from the original Mary Poppins. The upbeat track was composed by Hairspray and Smash collaborators Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, according to Playbill. While not playing the same character, Miranda is replacing Dick Van Dyke in the film. Van Dyke played a Cockney chimney sweep named Bert, however, Miranda is playing a Cockney lamplight named Jack. "Trip A Little Light Fantastic" is sure to be one of Miranda's biggest solo numbers from Mary Poppins Returns.
The second track, titled "The Place Where Lost Things Go," feature's Blunt as the titular Mary Poppins. It's a more morose tune in comparison "Trip A Little Light Fantastic," showing a wide range of music from the movie's soundtrack. Blunt is taking over the iconic role from Julie Andrews. Van Dyke will be making a cameo in the long-awaited sequel, however, Andrews will not.
