Oklahoma state trooper narrowly avoids head on collision with semi-truck trailer

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper had an incredible close call with a semi-truck trailer that was captured by the patrolman's dashcam video camera.

According to the post from the department, while Trooper David Hamilton was driving south of the junction between Highway 59A and Highway 3W near Ada when he was almost crushed by a semi-truck trailer attempting to pass another vehicle in a non-passing zone.

The heart-stopping footage shows Hamilton hit the brakes and swerve onto the shoulder to avoid the oncoming truck.

Fortunately, the trooper was paying attention and was able to swerve out of the semi-truck's path just in the nick of time. Video shows the trooper whipping around and going after the truck whose driver had just pulled over in anticipation of the trooper coming after him.

Hamilton says the driver of the semi-truck was very apologetic for driving on the wrong side of the road. The trooper cited the driver for driving left of center in a marked zone.

The department posted the video saying they hope the trooper's near miss would be a good reminder for drivers to pay attention to traffic laws - especially in an area that has already seen several fatalities over the last year and a half.
