Nevada First State Ever With Majority Woman Rule

By Daniel Crumbley

December 19, 2018

For the first time in U.S. history, women comprise a majority of a state's lawmakers.  Two women were appointed to vacated seats today in Nevada.  That means women now have 32 of the 63 seats in the state legislature.  Women lawmakers hold 23 of the 42 seats in the state Assembly and are nine of the 21 members in the state Senate.  New Hampshire had a majority of women in its state Senate in 2009 and 2010. Nationwide, women hold only about 25% of the seats in state legislatures.
