President Donald Trump declared victory against ISIS in Syria and is planning to withdraw all U.S. forces from the country. In a Wednesday (December 19) morning tweet, Trump said that fighting ISIS was "my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency."

The tweet comes following a Wall Street Journal report that said the Pentagon is planning an immediate withdrawal of the roughly 2,000 U.S. troops who have been working alongside local Syrian forces to fight the terrorist group.

The U.S. helped the Syrians take back the city of Hajin earlier in December. Hajin was the last major stronghold held by ISIS forces in the country.
