Women Accused of Stealing From Target During 'Shop With A Cop' Event

Two women in Michigan have been accused of stealing $1,900 worth of electronics from a Target store that was filled with police as part of a charity "Shop with a Cop" event. 

Keiana Wilson, 40, of Burton, Mich. and Dana Johnson, 18, of Flint Mich. were both arrested and charged with "felony retail fraud charges" WXYZ reported. 

The women's ill-timed crime coincided with a charity event that saw 15 officers from the Bloomfield Township, Sylan Lake, Keego Harbo and Orchard Lake police department helping children choose a gift for their family members. 

When the two women were spotted by the store's security officers loading a cart filled with $1,900 worth of electronics and walking out the door without paying, but Wilson and Johnson didn't get far. 

"The loss prevention (officers) actually apprehended them, then they asked for police assistance," Sylvan Lake Police Sgt. Michael Mondeau said. "The police officers were only about 20 feet away when they tried to walk out of the store."

According to Bloomfield Township Sgt. Dan Brown, the two women were aware that the officers were in the store at the time because Johnson actually complimented one officer on his generosity. 

The Keego Harbor Police Department also posted about the event, and even mentioned the two women's ill-fated alleged shoplifting spreed. 

"On a side note, there must have been a special episode of ‘Dumb Criminal Minds’ being filmed live as a person tried to shoplift a bunch of electronics right in front of about 10 cops. They didn't get far. DON'T TAKE WHAT IS NOT YOURS, it's a simple rule that everyone should abide by and the world would be a better place," the department wrote on Facebook. 

The two women have been arraigned with bond set at $250,000 for Johnson and $20,000 for Wilson.
