Delaware River Crossing Portion of Reenactment Canceled
December 25, 2018
Organizers call off part of a reenactment of George Washington crossing the Delaware River due to high water levels. Thousands were expected to line the banks of the Delaware River Tuesday for the Christmas-day event, but the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says the river crossing portion is off. It plans to go forward with the rest of the program at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville, New Jersey. It was on December 25th in 1776, that Washington and his troops crossed the river during the War for Independence. That crossing led to strategic victories the following in Trenton and subsequent victories at Assunpink Creek and Princeton.
