Shay Mitchell Reveals She Suffered A Miscarriage In Heartbreaking Note

Our hearts are still breaking for Shay Mitchell.

On New Year's Eve, the Pretty Little Liars alumna, who has supposedly been involved with Canadian actor Matte Babel since 2017, revealed she suffered a miscarriage in 2018. The actress made the heartbreaking admission on her Instagram Stories before the holiday after sharing a sonogram image of what would have been her first child.

"We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life," Mitchell prefaced. "And sometimes it's easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads many people to criticize it for its lack of authenticity."

"Having so many people follow me on Instagram and read my posts is both incredibly humbling and hugely uplifting," the 31-year-old continued. "The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams."

The You star went on to use her message as a reminder to fans, going forward into 2019, "that we are all on this journey together -- in good times and in bad -- and to remind ourselves that we seldom really know or understand the struggles and hardships that other people are going through."

In ending her note, she encouraged her followers "to be a little more compassionate, empathetic, patient and thoughtful with each other."

Mitchell's admission prompted supporters to flood social media with words of love and reassurance. 

One wrote in a tweet: "Shay Mitchell had a miscarriage in 2018 and none of us knew this just proves that none us know what’s truly going on in other peoples lives and we should be there for one another and show love no matter what. Sending love and prayers to [Shay Mitchell]."
