In addition to dropping a blooper reel for "thank u, next," Ariana Grande has also confirmed that her next single will be the much-talked-about "7 Rings" cut.
On Thursday (January 3), Grande revealed via Twitter that the aforementioned track is her next single from her upcoming fifth studio album. No word on details about the sound of the record, but the pop star revealed the backstory in early December. Apparently, the track was inspired by "a pretty rough day in NYC" when she went to Tiffany's with her friends, had too much champagne and decided to buy them all engagement rings. "It was very insane and funny," she recalled in a tweet. "On the way back to the stu Njomza was like 'b*tch, this gotta be a song lol’. so we wrote it that afternoon."
Among the females that received rings included Victoria Monet, Alexa Luria, Courtney Chipolone, Tayla Parx, Njomza, and Kim "Kaydence" Krysiuk. Grande's mother and her grandmother also received rings after the song was completed. "7 Rings" initially popped up in the singer's music video for "breathin" amongst a list of possible song titles for her next LP.
Earlier this week, Grande was announced as one of the three headliners for 2019 Coachella alongside Tame Impala and Childish Gambino. One source told TMZ that she was picked with the intent to showcase female empowerment. "Ariana is inspirational, and millions of people, particularly women, will connect with her," the insider said.
