Only a few weeks after being admitted to the ICU due to her severe fish allergy, Bethenny Frankel had another scary experience while on an airplane. The airline was serving bass while Bethenny was on board and, due to her allergy, the plane was forced to turn around. She opened up about the incident on Twitter.

"Called airline mult x to say I have fish allergy. Got on & they're serving bass," she wrote. "They couldn’t not serve it they said. Then they were turning around which I protested bc it would delay people. Cabin asked to not serve it & pilot made announcement to plane. That was fun."

Frankel opened up about why serving fish on a plane can be so dangerous for those who are allergic to it: it affects those with allergies with touch and air. You can suffer a severe reaction just by being in the same room as the fish.

"To clarify: some allergens are transmitted by touch & air. Fish is one & is fatal," she wrote. "The more exposure to them, the more susceptible. It's not like an immunity thing where more exposure means less susceptible. It's opposite. I've always kept it quiet but that's over now."

She shared a story about an 11-year-old boy from Brooklyn who died from a severe allergic reaction to fish when it was being cooked in his home to show how serious this issue really is. Frankel then tagged all the major airlines in a tweet and wrote: "stop serving airborne allergens. I'll stay on this until you do."

While Bethenny never planned on opening up about her allergy in this way, it's great to see her use her platform to stand up for people with allergies everywhere.
