First Fatal Crash of 2019 in Allen County on SR 309

Lima, OH (WIMA) -- A two vehicle crash that happened on State Route 309 at Thayer Road, east of Lima on Thursday morning, resulted in Allen County’s first roadway fatality of 2019.

Just after 5am, a car driven by 23 year-old Tashonda Ward of Columbus was southbound, stopped, then attempted to cross 309, and failed to yield to a pickup truck, driven by 58 year-old Mark Oberly of Harrod.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2 year-old passenger in Ward’s car was not properly restrained in a safety seat and was ejected..  He was transported for treatment of minor injuries.

Oberly was sent to Lima Memorial for non-life threatening injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol or drug impairment is not suspected to be a factor.
