The Who is releasing new music and going on tour in 2019!
The legendary rock band has confirmed that they're working on their 12th studio album —their first in 13 years — that will feature "dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang," lead guitarist Pete Townshend said in a statement. The band's new project follows their Endless Wire album, a 10-part mini-opera released in 2006.
Frontman Roger Daltrey also announced dates for The Who's upcoming U.S. "Moving On!" tour, which launches May 7, and will feature "a local orchestra [that] will join the band every night of the tour for an evening of music from their entire career," Rolling Stone previously reported. "Be aware, Who fans!" he said in a statement. "Just because it’s The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on."
The 74-year-old rocker previously said that this tour could be his last. "I’m just being realistic about going through the 75th year of my life," he said. "I have to be realistic that this is the age I am and voices start to go after a while. I don’t want to be not as good as I was two years ago."
