Authorities in Phoenix have made an arrest in the case of a woman in a vegetative state who unexpectedly gave birth last month. Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams identified the suspect as 36-year-old Nathan Sutherland, a nurse who has worked at Hacienda Healthcare since 2011.
Williams said that Sutherland was responsible for caring for the 29-year-old woman at the time the sexual assault occurred. After DNA tests came back and identified Sutherland as the father of the child he was taken into custody.
Officials said they are still trying to determine how many times the woman was assaulted and are continuing their investigation.
