A Detroit family returning home from vacation in Miami were removed from their American Airlines flight after passengers complained about their body odor. Yossi Adler, his wife Jennie, and their young daughter were in their seats when a flight attendant asked them to disembark from the plane.
"All of a sudden, as soon as they took us off, they closed the gate and then they said, 'Sorry, sir, some people complained you had body odor and we're not letting you back on,'" Yossi told WPLG.
The Adlers were embarrassed by the situation and denied that they smelled bad.
"We stopped several people in the airport and it's embarrassing, but we asked them 'Do you think we smell because we just got kicked off a plane for smelling?' People told us we didn't smell," Jennie explained.
Yossi recorded his interaction with the gate agent after his family was removed from the plane. He accused them of kicking his family off the flight for religious reasons.
"There's a religious reason for some reason that they're kicking me off the plane. We don't have odor, OK? Nobody here has odor," Adler told the gate agent.
To make matters worse, the Adlers said the airline never removed their luggage from the plane, leaving them with just the clothes on their back and the bags they brought onto the plane.
The Adlers were booked into a hotel for the night and American Airlines put them on a flight back to Detroit the following day.
American Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement.
"Mr. Adler and his wife were removed from the flight when several passengers complained about their body odor. They have been booked into a hotel for the night and given meal vouchers. They have been rebooked on a flight Thursday."
