Rachel Brosnahan's newest project is close to her heart. The 28-year-old actress is now the face of Frances Valentine, the label designer Kate Spade founded in 2016. While Rachel is often spotted wearing the brand's designs, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star is also the niece of the late designer. Spade tragically died by suicide at the age of 55 in June 2018. Now, her niece is carrying on Spade's legacy and honoring her work in Frances Valentine's spring campaign.
“In the wake of Katy’s passing, my family and I were so overwhelmed and encouraged by the love and support we received from those who were touched by Katy’s work, many of whom were strangers from around the world,” Brosnahan told People. “When you lose someone you love, you search for boundless ways to keep their memory alive. This felt like a way to do that through her beautiful creations and an opportunity to share them with all of those who her work meant so much to.”
"I feel so privileged to partner with Frances Valentine to showcase their spring collection in celebration of my Aunt Katy’s life, legacy and love of fashion," she continued.
Frances Valentine was founded by Spade, alongside her husband Andy Spade and best friend Elyce Arons. The company is named after her 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix, so family was always integral to Frances Valentine's core. Inviting Brosnahan to be the face of the campaign seemed like the perfect way to embody that in the wake of Spade's passing. “She’s always been very close to Katy, and she’s been a part of the company since the beginning,” Arons, now the CEO of Frances Valentine, said of Brosnahan. “She said yes to the idea, and here we are!”
“I think it’s more meaningful than any other campaign we’ve done because it’s [Rachel], and she was so close to Katy,” Arons continued. “I know it would really make Katy smile.”
“We were so touched, I think, hearing in the wake of this unthinkable tragedy…how many other people had been touched either by her personally, by her work.” @RachelBros says of her late aunt Kate Spade pic.twitter.com/X4BFXYhUPV

Brosnahan and Arons reiterated their excitement over the collaboration during an appearance on The Today Show, as well, with Brosnahan saying, "in Katy’s case, there is so much of her left behind. Not only to us, but to so many other people and the impact that’s she’s had on the fashion industry. It was a really special experience.”
Brosnahan also spoke about the importance of asking for help for those of us who suffer with mental illness. “Life is hard. There are so many of us who have experienced the high highs and low lows that life can contain,” she said. “I know it that can be so difficult to reach up out of the darkness, but you are absolutely never ever alone, and please do reach out.”
