According to New York Times — More than a thousand inmates have been stuck in unlivable conditions at a federal prison on Brooklyn waterfront. The frigid temperatures have caused the prison to have limited power, leaving it's inmates in freezing cells with no heat for at least a week.
Federal representatives for the detention center said work and labor to fix these conditions will not be completed until Monday. David Patton, the director of The Federal Defenders of New York told media outlet CNN :
" Lighting is down. No light in the cells. All locked down since Thursday night. That's going on for at least 36 hours. When the sun goes down it's pitch dark. Inmates who have medical conditions can't read the instructions on the medications," Patton said.
New York City's Mayor Bill De Blasio took to Twitter to announce he made arrangements for the city to send hundreds of blankets and hand warmers to the detention center.
Protesters are currently rallying for the imprisoned in Brooklyn,NY. as " some of whom have family members detained at MDC."
