A package thief in Utah picked the wrong home to steal from and was forced to flee empty-handed. The homeowner's doorbell camera captured the porch pirate approaching to take a package off their doorstep when the family's 9-year-old black lab, Zero bolted out of the house and gave chase.
The thief started to run toward a getaway car and tossed the package in the road as the driver sped away.
“I just kind of yelled, ‘Get ‘em Zero! Get ‘em!” the dog's owner, Whitney Cahoon, told FOX13.
Cahoon said that she was surprised Zero gave chase because he's usually "scared of everyone and everything."
“I mean dusters, plastic bags, the cats...he’s terrified of the cats,” she added.
Whitney explained that package thefts in her neighborhood have been a growing problem.
“People have been trying to steal packages, they’ve caught them on camera, but never here,” she said. “We’re on a pretty busy street, I didn’t think that anybody would ever dare attempt that.”
Now she hopes word will spread that her home is protected by a doorbell camera and a guard dog who won't hesitate to chase after a thief, even if they are only attempting to steal a $4 dimmer switch from Ikea.
