The Real Royal Drama Is Between Princes William & Harry, Not Their Wives

While rumors of a feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been swirling for a long time, the real rift is reportedly between Prince William and Prince Harry. A new documentary, TLC's Kate vs. Meghan, Princesses at War?, aims to set the record straight about what's really going on behind the scenes of Kensington Palace.

Katie Nicholl, one of ten royal experts appearing in the documentary, reveals that William and Harry's once tight-knit bond came undone following Harry's engagement. "William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly," she explains in Kate vs. Meghan."And being close to Harry, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry, 'This seems to be moving quickly, are you sure?'"

"I think what was meant as well-intended brotherly advice just riled Harry. Harry is hugely protective of Meghan. He saw that as criticism," she continues. He interpreted that as his brother not really being behind this marriage, this union, and I don't think things have been quite right ever since."

Lady Colin Campbell, a royal biographer who also appears in the documentary, also confirms that the royal beef is really between the brothers. While Nicholl believes the rift was caused by William's brotherly concern being misinterpreted by Harry, Lady Campbell insists Harry is simply too obsessed with his new wife to think clearly. "Everything I hear is that Harry is completely beguiled by Meghan and completely enthralled to her and has changed considerably. People do change when they get married," she explains.

Apparently before Harry and Meghan fell in love, Harry was a near-constant presence in William and Kate's Kensington Palace apartment. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly really considered Harry a part of their family unit. Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine, says that after meeting Meghan, Harry was "suddenly out of [William and Kate's] lives and there may have been some resentment."
