An Alaskan teenager was arrested after he grabbed the controls of a short commuter flight between Napakiak and Bethel, causing the “plane to enter a steep climb and then a dive toward the ground.”
Shortly after the four-minute flight was airborne, the boy started messing with the controls. Another passenger on the aircraft grabbed the boy around the neck and pulled him away from the controls. The small jet returned to Napakiak, but the teen managed to run off before authorities could arrive. They tracked him down the next day in Bethel and took him into custody.
Authorities did not release the teen's name because he is a minor, nor did they announce what he has been charged with. Interfering with the duties of a flight crew is considered a federal offense and the FBI is working with local authorities.
