A New York man has been arrested after authorities say he ran over a family of eight outside of a 7-Eleven. 35-year-old Jason Mendez got into an argument with the father of the family because Mendez was smoking outside of the convenience store. Mendez got into his car and mowed down the family, which included an infant and five children.

After he hit them the first time, he backed up and then plowed into them again. He got out of his car brandishing a knife and refused to follow commands from the responding officers, forcing them to subdue him with tasers.

All eight members of the family were taken to the hospital, where the mother was pronounced dead. The rest of family suffered serious injuries in the attack but are expected to make a full recovery.

Mendez was charged with second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.
