Queen + Adam Lambert Documentary Coming In April

The beautiful thing about Queen + Adam Lambert is how important both parties are to one another.

Over the eight years, the partnership has enabled both the iconic rock band to thrive and the flamboyant front man to accelerate his status as one of the great vocalists in modern music.

As such, the upcoming documentary The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story should be essential viewing.

The two-hour special, coming to ABC on April 29, focuses on Lambert's rise to prominence and his fruitful partnership with one of his childhood inspirations.

The special will feature new interviews with Lambert, Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, as well as Bohemian Rhapsody star and Oscar-winner Rami Malek, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and former American Idol judge Simon Cowell.

It will also contain "rare concert footage and exclusive, revealing portraits of the band members offstage," according to ABC.

Lambert's first big break was his 2009 audition for American Idol in which he stunned the judges with an a cappella rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Lambert excelled on the show — finishing in second place — and even performed with Queen in one episode.

Two years later, as he'd begun to establish himself as a solo artist, Lambert partnered up with Queen for the first of many successful tours.

But The Queen + Adam Lambert Story isn't merely one of a legendary band giving a young star a boost.

Since Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, Queen's May and Taylor struggled to figure out a way to continue as a live act. A partnership with Free / Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers was fruitful but short-lived and by 2009, Queen was looking for a new way to get back on the road.

Lambert's ability, personality and status allowed Queen to resume its status as one of the biggest live acts in music and appeal to a new, younger audience.

Queen + Adam Lambert will go back on the road this summer for the 2019 "Rhapsody Tour."
