While closing out the Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona Sunday night (March 3), Eddie Vedder gave fans a little treat. During his solo set, the Pearl Jam frontman covered "Maybe It's Time" from A Star Is Born. In the movie, Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) plays the song on an acoustic guitar the first time he meets Ally (Lady Gaga) in a drag bar. Fittingly, Vedder also performed the track on acoustic guitar, and to anyone who wasn't familiar with the movie it probably sounded like a Pearl Jam deep cut.

It's eerie how perfect the Jason Isbell-penned song is for Vedder's gritty voice, but it's not surprising. The singer-songwriter was Cooper's muse for the character, after all. During a press junket before the film's release, the first-time director explained how Vedder impacted his character.

“I went up to Seattle and spent four or five days with him and I asked him 9,000 questions,” Cooper recalled. “And he gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings.”

When Cooper divulged that he was going to play Maine, Vedder wasn't sold. “He thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie,” he laughed. “He was like, ‘What? Bro, don’t do that.’"

Clearly, it worked out fine for The Hangover star, who not only proved he can sing with the best of them, but also showed the epitome of chemistry with his co-star Lady Gaga.
