Jeff Bezos Richest Person in the World For Second Year in a Row

Forbes has crowned Jeff Bezos as the world's richest person for the second year in a row with the Amazon CEO's net worth coming in at an incredible $131 billion. That's more than $19 billion that it was a year ago.

Bill Gates, whose net worth is estimated at $96.5 billion was rated as the second-richest in the world. Gates has sold much of his Microsoft stock that led to so much of his success (he only owns about 1 percent of the company now), but he remains a board member with the company that he founded with Paul Allen in 1975.

Forbes notes that Gates could have been #1 again on their list, had he not donated $35.8 billion to his foundation. Of course, Gates had a good run as the #1 richest person in the world between 2001 and 2017.

Coming in third was Berkshire CEO Warren Buffet. The "Oracle of Omaha" is well-known as one of the most successful investors of all time which has given him a net worth estimated to be $82.5 billion. Buffet has pledged to give away the majority of his fortune to charity making $3.4 billion in donations in 2018.

Bettencourt Meyers, the granddaughter of L'Oréal founder Eugene Schueller, is the world's richest woman with an estimated net worth of $49.3 billion. Meyers debuted on the Forbes list last year after her mother, Liliane Bettencourt passed away in 2017. Meyers' fortune has shot up by $7.1 billion over the last year thanks to a good year at the makeup retailer. Up to 90 percent of Meyers' net worth is estimated to come from stock in L'Oréal,

Also on this year's list was Kylie Jenner, who at 21, has become the youngest self-made billionaire in history. Jenner's business, Kylie Cosmetics, was already doing a brisk business, but after signing an exclusive deal with Ulta, a beauty retailer, Jenner's makeup kits exploded in popularity. In six weeks after the distribution deal was reached, Kylie Cosmetics had already sold $54.5 million worth of products according to estimates.

Kylie Cosmetics is estimated to be worth at least $900 million, with Jenner owning the whole thing.

Jenner beat the previous record set by Mark Zuckerberg, who reached the three comma club when he was 23-years-old.

Next year may see a new billionaire at the top of the list after Bezos announced in January that he was splitting from his longtime wife, MacKenzie. The couple lived in Washington State, which designates all income generated during the marriage as "community property." Bezos' divorce raises the possibility that he could lose half his fortune, or even control over Amazon (he owns 16 percent of Amazon's shares).
