'Riverdale' Production Remains Shut Down After Luke Perry's Death

Production for the third season of Riverdale has been put on hold.
According to multiple outlets, the set remained closed for the second day following Luke Perry's death on Monday (March 4). As previously reported, the Riverdale star, who portrayed Archie's father Fred Andrews on the CW show, passed assed away after suffering a "massive stroke" days prior.
News of Luke's death shocked not only his cast mates, but those through out the entertainment industry. Both those who previously worked with Luke or merely admired his work expressed grief over the 52-year-old actor's death. The CW also released a statement following news of his passing. "We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all," read the statement. "A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time." The network additionally shut down production of the hit show Monday.
The 52-year-old actor, who was one of the breakout stars on Beverly Hills, 90210, suffered a "massive stroke" on Wednesday (February 27). Paramedics responded to Luke's Sherman Oaks home around 9:40 a.m after receiving a call about "someone suffering a stroke," TMZ reported last week. While Luke was reportedly responsive and talking when paramedics arrived, his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital. His rep told TMZ doctors sedated Luke after he arrived to the hospital on Wednesday, hoping to give his brain a fighting chance to recover from the trauma of stroke, however, the damage was too extensive.
Luke became a household name playing the role of Dylan McKay, who was a modern James Dean of sorts, on Beverly Hills, 90210. His former 90210 cast mates were among the many to issue their condolences following his shocking passing.
