Chance the Rapper is in love love, and he's telling the whole world about it! (Grab your tissues because this modern love story will definitely leave you in your feelings)
In honor of his upcoming weekend nuptials, the "My Own Thing" rapper shared the story of how he first met his soon-to-be-wife, Kirsten Corley.
Being the wordsmith that he is, Chance went into great detail on Twitter Wednesday (March 6), recalling the exact moment he locked eyes with Kirsten at the young age of nine. "Storytime. A thread on how I met my wife," he began his love story, which he posted alongside a photo of him and his fiancée as kids. "This photo was taken on the day that I first met my wife!"
The 25-year-old rapper then set the scene, explaining how their chance encounter occurred at one of his mom's office parties back in 2003. While he admitted he was not excited about being there at first, things changed once someone announced a special presentation by one of the biggest girl groups. "This is where my memory comes back in a photographic manner. We were instructed to make a way for an exclusive performance by DESTINY's CHILD," Chance recalled, remembering how he created a semi-circle to see Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. However, to his surprise, "from the back stepped out 3 young girls... Who were not Destiny's Child."
"'QUESTION. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME.' Now I'm locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen on my almost-a-decade of life on Earth," he continued. "I shouldn't even say locked eyes 'cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography and mastering the art of lip-syncing in a way even the most professional performers have yet to accomplish."
It was then that Chance's dad nudged his shoulder, encouraging him to "do that lil dance you and ya friends be doin." However, the Chicago native said he turned down the opportunity to dance with Kirsten because he "knew [he] was gonna marry that girl. And I ain't wanna jump the gun." Adding, "So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself." (Now this is where you should grab your tissues)
"16 years later it's happening. This [weekend] is the time, and the place is my wedding. I'm gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny," he concluded. (Told ya, it was a sweet story!)
The couple, who share a three-year-old daughter Kensli, got engaged in front of their friends and family last summer.
