How Long Should You Date Someone Before You Leave Stuff At Their Place

There’s nothing more inconvenient than packing an overnight bag to go hang out with the person you’ve been seeing. But if the relationship is relatively new, how do you know that having a toothbrush at their place isn’t just asking for things to end? Or what happens if you accidentally leave a sweater behind? Will your new boo freak?

A few ladies weighed in on how long you should be dating someone before you can leave your crap at their house freely. Here are the ideas:

  • “If I’m dating someone and they’re staying the night often, I’d say they canbring a toothbrush over ASAPbecause I’ve had partners who used mine and that freaks me out, so I’m down for them to make that move fast.” – Naomi, 23
  • “When my husband and I first started dating, he left a few shirts at my apartment atabout the month mark of sleeping over” – Summer, 24
  • I wouldn’t read into itas 'we’re one step closer to marriage,' even if they might think of it that way.” – Landen, 24
  • We are five months into the relationship, and I have my fancy conditioner at her house, two toothbrushes, and an assortment of my clothing that lives at her house. We share a lot of things, too.” – Meghan, 22

As long as you’re dating someone relatively normal, leaving a thing or two at their place every once in a while shouldn’t be a huge deal. You’ll see each other soon, right? If it really bothers you, return it! After a certain point, I think it’s fair game to start having a stash of extra undies lying around if you know you’ll be back at this place fairly often.
