An American Airlines flight carrying 99 passengers and four crew-members was forced to return to Boston's Logan International Airport after the airliner hit a flock of geese shortly after takeoff Sunday morning.
Officials say American Airlines Flight 2163 was taking off from Logan International Airport at 10:08 a.m. bound for LaGuardia Airport in New York City when the plane struck the birds. The pilots on-board declared an emergency, and circled around to land the plane safely at 10:19 a.m. Passengers on board the flight reported seeing a mess of blood and feathers on the plane's windshield.
Authorities deplaned the passengers and got them on board a replacement aircraft later that morning, a spokesman for American Airlines said.
A first for me in something like 4 million air miles. We hit a goose on takeoff and the skilled @americanair pilots brought us back for an emergency landing. pic.twitter.com/bn6Uo9sxJ2

No injuries were reported.
A maintenance team checked the plane after it landed, American Airlines said.
