Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are among 15 people set to appear in federal court in Boston on Wednesday as part of the ongoing college admissions scam. While Loughlin was reportedly all smiles when she arrived at court, with Entertainment Weekly reporting that she even stopped to sign autographs for fans, the Fuller House actress is facing serious consequences for her involvement in the bribery scandal.
According to TMZ, Loughlin and Huffman are both facing jail time. Even though they may be able to cut a plea deal, prosecutors are still aiming to put the actresses behind bars. A source close to the situation told the outlet that any plea deal they strike will come with a strong recommendation of jail time. "You can't have people being treated differently because they have money. That's how we got to this place. Every defendant will be treated the same," the source explained.
So, just how much jail time will Loughlin and Huffman get? They each face a maximum of 5 years behind bars if they're convicted. They're both charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. While the prosecutors will push for jail time, the final decision is not up to them. The U.S. Attorney will make a recommendation to the judge presiding over the case and then the judge will ultimately make that decision.
Huffman is accused of paying $15,000 to facilitate cheating for her daughter on the SATs, while Loughlin allegedly paid bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having her two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team.
