Los Angeles World Premiere Of Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame"

Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" crushed the competition at the box office Thursday night with a jaw-dropping $60 million opening night - that's the largest movie opening in history.

The sequel to last year's "Avengers: Infinity War" surpassed the record held by another Disney property: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" which hauled in $57 million on its opening night in 2015, comScore reported. "The Force Awakens" went on to earn an incredible $258 million at the box office that weekend - the highest grossing opening weekend in history.

A hit with both critics and audiences, some experts expect "Endgame" to snap "Star Wars'" record into dust over the weekend. Most box office analysts are predicting a $260 million weekend open for the "Endgame" box office with more than $800 million globally. Some analysts say it's possible the movie could push past $300 million over the weekend as audiences continue to pack theaters to watch The Avengers take on Thanos.

"Endgame" picks up where 2018's "Infinity War" left off, bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's heroes together after Thanos' attack on Earth which turn half of all life across the universe to dust. "Endgame" is the culmination of 21 Marvel movies from the last 11 years that began with Robert Downey starring in Iron Man in 2008.
