Dark Secret Place - The History of Cinco de Mayo
By Victor Wright
May 5, 2019
The biggest misconception of Cinco de Mayo is that it is "Mexican Independence Day".
In 1862, the Mexican president announced that they would not be paying back the money that they owed to France and other European powers. The French then invaded Mexico and their troops heavily outnumbered Mexico's.
As the French marched on Mexico City, Mexican troops were able to hold them off at Puebla. On May 5, 1862, Mexico won the "Battle of Puebla".
And that is the real meaning behind Cinco de Mayo.
