Dozens Of Students Stranded At Texas School Due To Flooding

Around 60 elementary school students had to spend the night at their Texas school after heavy rain caused significant flooding which forced road closures across the area. As a result of the flooding, the school district was unable to bus the children home and their parents were unable to make their way to the Cleveland Independent School District's Southside Primary School to pick up their kids.
Around 100 staff members and teachers stayed at the school with the children. They took shifts cooking meals and playing games with the students, who seemed to have fun despite being stuck at school.
"The teachers played games. They (danced). They had fun," Superintendent Chris Trotter told KPRC. "They had an extended school day, and it was a great time for all of our staff members and students."
As the road conditions improved throughout the night, parents slowly trickled in to pick up their kids and bring them home. The parents were happy to know that their kids were safe during the dangerous storm.
"I have a low car, so I (couldn't) go through," Maria Alvarado, whose five children spent the night at the school told the news outlet. "(I) couldn't sleep well (but) they're safe. They were safe last night."
The school district shared a couple of photos on Facebook of the impromptu sleep-over at the school.
