More Than 1,000 Guns Seized From Upscale Home in Los Angeles

Law enforcement officials have seized more than 1,000 guns that were stored at a home in an upscale area of Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Police Department in conjunction with agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives served a warrant at the residents at around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning at the home located in the upscale section of L.A. known as Holmby Hills. There, law enforcement officials discovered more than 1,000 guns, all of which ranged from Revolutionary War era-rifles to modern assault rifles.

Multiple locations were searched as a part of the investigation, including a home on North Bunker Hill Avenue and in Chinatown after law enforcement received a anonymous tip.

"Pursuant to an anonymous tip, ATF and LAPD became aware of an individual conducting illegal firearms (transactions) outside the scope of the federal firearm license that the individual (possesses)," according to ATF spokeswoman Ginger Colbrun.

Investigators recovered more than 1,000 guns as well as manufacturing equipment, ammunition, and other tools. There was no reason to believe the public was in any danger, Colburn added.

Girard Saenz, 57, of Los Angeles was taken into custody on suspicion of distributing, transporting, importing, selling, or lending an assault weapon the Los Angeles Police Department said.

"It's a big stash," LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez told reporters at the scene. "It's just beyond comprehension that somebody can have so many weapons in a residence like this in a neighborhood such like this."

The weapons vary and include all makes, calibers and models. The guns will be itemized and entered into evidence, Ramirez said.

Saenz is currently being held on $50,000 bail.

The 8,200-square foot, five-bedroom home is valued at more than $7 million according to property records. The property belongs to Cynthia Beck, who has three children with J. Paul Getty's son, Gordon Getty. Beck bought the home in 2001, but it's unclear what connection, if any, she has with the gun bust.
