Tom Petty's new music video for his posthumously-released song "For Real" was created by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's daughter Adria Petty.

"For Real" was the only previously unreleased track on his compilation, The Best of Everything, which was released March 1. The track finds Petty reflecting on his life's work.

Adria, who's also directed videos for the likes of Coldplay, Beyoncé and Regina Spektor, edited the video herself. It features vintage photos and archival footage of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, both on stage and in studio.

Reviewing all the old video footage and bringing to life so many rare photos was an emotional process, she told Rolling Stone.

"I was crying my eyes out every night during the edit," she explained, "but he raised my to finish my s--t. There was work to do and you had to get it done."

While Adria says her dad wrote and recorded the song in 2000, she never heard it before last year when she was sifting through a 'vault' of her dad's material at Heartbreakers' guitarist Mike Campbell's home studio.

She recalled the emotional moment.

"It hit me pretty hard the first time I heart it," Adria said. "I was told he wrote it in his hotel room the night before, and it feels very raw and sincere. It really stood out as something pretty profound, sort of from the grave, right? Just a real assessment of his strange reality of being a living legend."

She added that the lyrics show how heavily her dad valued authenticity, and how little he concerned himself with being a "pastiche of pop culture."

Tom Petty died in October of 2017 of an accidental prescription drug overdose.
