Authorities in Connecticut arrested dozens of people in a massive heroin bust targeting mid-level drug dealers. Police arrested 51 people as part of "Operation: Raw Deal" and are looking for ten others involved in selling narcotics.
"The objective of this extensive investigation was to suppress the trafficking of heroin in Waterbury," the city's police said in a news release.
Waterbury has been hit hard by the opioid epidemic and has seen a significant increase in the number of deaths and overdoses in 2019.
Over 135 officers from various agencies including the Waterbury Police Department, Connecticut State Police, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been working on "Operation: Raw Deal" for the last year.
Authorities seized thousands of packaged bags of heroin, several guns, $15,000 in cash and two vehicles.
"Where you have drugs, you have money. Where you have drugs and money, you can have guns and those three in one place, you have violence," Silverio added.
