Friends may be one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, but the cast has some complicated feelings about the ten years they spent working on the show. Lisa Kudrow recently admitted she doesn't watch reruns of Friends, saying: "I might not like myself, so I'd rather not risk that." A few days later, she explained what she meant by that during an appearance on WTF with Marc Maron.
While chatting with the podcast host, Lisa revealed that her time on Friends negatively affected her body image. She recalled a period of time during the show's run when she knew she was too thin, however, she was often praised for looking better that way.
"Unfortunately for a woman, if you're underweight, you look "good" — that's all I ever got," she said. "When I was too thin, I was sick all the time, with colds, sinus infections, some kind of flu. I was always sick."
Lisa also opened up about how appearing alongside co-stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston added full to the fire. "You see yourself on TV, and it's that, 'Oh my god, I'm just a mountain of a girl.' And I'm already bigger than Courteney and Jennifer,'" she explained. "[I was] taller, bigger. My bones feel bigger, I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them."
Though Lisa admits she still deals with body image issues, she's working on learning to brush those negative thoughts aside and focus on the positive side of aging. “I have a whole battle all the time,” she said. “I end up with, ‘So what? So, alright. You’re older. That’s a good thing. Why is that a bad thing?'”
