A 66-year-old Vietnam War veteran wasn't going to let a group of armed teenagers steal his car on Memorial Day. Three teenagers walked up to Saylee Vang around 9 a.m. on Monday morning in front of his home in Milwaukee and demanded his keys while one of the teens pulled out a gun. Vang refused to hand over his keys, and the group ran off.
"He looked at them and said today's not my day to go," Vang's son Yimleej told WTMJ. "He just said no, and they just took off."
Vang started to give chase to the group, but they started shooting at him. Luckily, none of the four shots struck Vang, but they did hit his car.
"The scariest thing would be losing my dad right there because I saw the video," Yimleej said. "They actually had the gun pointed at him."
Yimleej spoke about the incident with WISN and told the news station that his father helped U.S. troops in Laos and was forced to kill people while he was deployed.
"During the war, he's killed before," Yimleej said. "For these kids to come up, he wasn't fazed about it."
Police have released surveillance video and hope that the public can help identify and track down the three suspects.
