Nick Jonas is opening up about how the Jonas Brothers' devastating breakup nearly ruined their relationship.

By now you've heard the boy band — comprised of members Kevin, Joe, and Nick — is back on top. After more than a decade away from music, the brothers have returned with a new number-one single, announced their "Chasing Happiness Tour" and new Happiness Begins album (out June 7), teased a documentary with Amazon and a tell-all, both coming this fall — and all within a few month's time.

If that sounds like a lot of press, that's because the brothers have been waiting for the right moment to tell the story of how their stardom abruptly went stagnant in 2013 when the group split with little to no explanation.

Now, in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning (below), Nick offers some lesser-known insight on a confrontation that made the 26-year-old worried his brothers might never want to speak with him again.

“To call it creative differences is almost too simple,” Nick said. “And I think a lot of people lost the appetite for what we were putting into the world. So, you know, we were putting up shows that weren’t selling. We were making music that I don’t think we were all super proud of, and it wasn’t connected.”

Nick went on recall the "tough conversation" he had with his older bros: “I said, ‘You know, I feel like the Jonas Brothers should be no more, and we should go on individual journeys.’ And it didn’t go so well."

Joe added that, in that moment, "I checked out in my mind" that there would be "no more brothers ever," to which Nick appended, “And I feared that, you know, we – they would never speak to me again.”

However, Joe said, in retrospect, without the confrontation they wouldn't be where they are today, adding that the moment allowed them "a do-over and I think this time around we’re going to do it right.”

This new interview comes on the heels of the band making their long-awaited return to the iHeartRadio Stage after 11 years over the weekend.
