Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up about difficulties she's faced with Will Smith over the course of their two decades long marriage. During an upcoming episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett Smith chats with world-renown couple's therapist Esther Perel about infidelity and other relationship betrayals.

“What are the alternatives to divorce? Everybody thinks as soon as you find out there’s been an affair you have to get a divorce,” Pinkett Smith asks in a promotional clip for the new episode.

Perel revealed she doesn't believe divorce is the only solution to infidelity in a marriage. “I’m not of that persuasion because I think there are many relational betrayals. Contempt, neglect, and violence and indifference and nobody tells people, ‘Leave, leave, get the hell out,'" she explained.“And especially on women, it’s the real new pressure. God forbid you still love the person who actually cheated on you. Maybe that person is a lot of things and cheated on you. It’s like the shame of staying, now that you can go you’ve got to get out.”

This answer struck a chord with Pinkett Smith, leading her to open up about the different types of betrayals she's experienced in her own marriage. “I’m asked a lot about, ‘Is there infidelity in your relationship with Will?'” she revealed. “And it’s like, ‘No, but there’ve been other betrayals of the heart that have been far bigger than I could even think in regards to an infidelity situation.'”

Though she didn't expand on what those "betrayals of the heart" were in the clip, she and Smith have been candid about their struggles in the past. During his own appearance on Red Table Talk, Smith said he and Pinkett Smith once broke up within their marriage. “I was devastated even worse than a divorce. We broke up within our marriage and got back together again,” he said. “We had to rebuild with new rules and something way, completely different.”

The newest episode of Red Table Talk airs Mondays on Facebook Watch.
