Mindy Kaling welcomed her daughter Katherine Kaling into the world back in December 2017. The actress/writer/producer was publicly single at the time of Katherine's birth and she decided to keep the identity of her daughter's father private. His name doesn't even appear on Katherine's birth certificate.

Though Mindy has opened up about being a single, working mother many times since Katherine was born, she's remained tight lipped about her daughter's paternity. She addressed her decision to keep that information private for the first time in a recent interview with The New York Times and it makes a lot of sense.

"My feeling is, that until I speak to my daughter [about her paternity], I'm not going to talk to anyone else about it," she explained.

This lines up with Mindy's effort to keep her daughter's face off social media, as well. While Katherine has appeared on her mom's Instagram, Mindy is careful to never show her face. In addition to keeping Katherine off Instagram, Mindy revealed she doesn't plan on using their relationship for material in the future, either.

"I could write stories about mothers, about my relationship with my daughter, but I don't know. It gets so Postcards From The Edge," she said. "I think people are often surprised that for someone who seems as open as I am on social media and who writes things that seem drawn from my life, I find that stuff really private."

Though Mindy is keeping Katherine's paternity private for the foreseeable future, she did reveal her longtime BFF and The Office co-star BJ Novak is her daughter's godfather. So cute!
