The baby who was cut from the womb of a young Chicago woman was brutally murdered has died. The baby, who was named Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, had been on life support for weeks after suffering extensive brain damage.
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez," the announcement said. "Please keep his family in your thoughts & prayers as they go through this difficult time."
The infant's mother, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, was killed in April after meeting up with a woman to pick up baby clothes. The woman, identified as Clarisa Figueroa, and her daughter, Desiree, allegedly cut the child from Ochoa-Lopez's womb. They then called 911 saying Clarisa had given birth and that the child was not breathing.
Police found Ochoa-Lopez's body in a "hidden area" of Figueroa's home, and a DNA test confirmed the baby was hers. The two women were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
