Carolina Panthers v Denver Broncos

When you're tall and stuck on a long international flight, a few extra inches of legroom in coach can be priceless for many people - as NFL quarterback Cam Newton discovered on his flight from Paris to Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback was caught on camera offering one of his fellow passengers on the flight $1,500 to switch seats in an attempt to get a few inches more of legroom, but his fellow passenger in coach declined the offer, according to former Colorado State football player Eli Edwards, who posted the interaction to Twitter and Instagram.

“It’s just gone viral,” Edwards told The Coloradoan. “… Social media’s crazy.”

The 6'5" Newton can be seen in the video speaking with the seated passenger, who shakes his head. Newton then returns back to his seat where he remained for the rest of the 10-hour flight to Dallas-Fort Worth.

The clip quickly went viral and racked up more than 4.5 million views by Tuesday morning.

Edwards, who was recently seen as a contestant on NBC's The Titan Games, said he was already seated in coach recording a video for his friends when he noticed Newton approach the passenger with his offer. He said he turned the phone on Newton while the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner negotiated the possible seat switch.

“He asked the guy in front of us about his seat and if he can trade seats, and (the other passenger) asked him how tall he was,” Edwards said Monday. “He said he was 6-6, and the guy goes, ‘Well, I’m 6-4, and I’m with my buddies here, so I won’t be able to give up my seat.’

“And he asked him if he would trade for $1,000, and he said, ‘No.’ And he’s like, ‘$1,500?’ And he said, ‘No.’"

Newton even offered the passenger cash, which was also turned down.
