Dave East is actually considering trying out for the NBA.
The six foot five rapper seemed open to the idea after being asked by a TMZ photog if he would follow in Master P's footsteps by trying out for an NBA team. (Master P was signed to two separate NBA contracts in the late '90s. He played for both the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors pre-season Summer Leagues in 1998 and 1999 respectively.)
"I might," Dave told the entertainment news site. "It got to be the [New York] Knicks, though." The Harlem native, who clearly loves his hometown team, added: "It got to be in New York."
As fans know, Dave, born David Brewster, Jr., isn't a stranger to the basketball court. He previously played AAU basketball with NBA stars Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley. The 31-year-old rapper's basketball skills even landed him a Division 1 scholarship to play at the University of Richmond. However, Dave was ultimately deemed ineligible due to his grades and instead, he pursued a rap career.
When the "Cut Em Off" rapper isn't working on his music, he isn't one to shy away from a pick-up game or a chance to watch his New York Knicks courtside. He's also friends with a number pro basketball players, including free agent KD. When asked if he'd like to see the current Golden State Warriors player move out to the east coast and play for a New York team, Dave said, "I hope he comes to New York." He also gave an update on how the MVP is healing after getting injured during the NBA Finals. "He's doing good. He's healing," he shared.
