A 15-year-old boy who was recently released from the Lucas County Youth Treatment Center died after he jumped off a diving board at Centennial Quarry in Sylvania Township, Ohio. Pedro Salinas pleaded guilty to murder in juvenile court after a passenger in a car was killed by a sandbag he dropped off an overpass in December 2017. He was placed at the Ohio Teaching Family Association after he was released.
Salinas went to the popular swimming facility with three other members of his group home and his teaching parent, 32-year-old Matthew Anderson. At one point, the teen jumped off a 15-foot diving board but never resurfaced. A lifeguard and a local scuba diver pulled Salinas to the surface, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials are investigating the incident and are conducting an autopsy to determine how he died. The Sylvania Recreation Corporation offered their condolences to the boy's family and said that Centennial Quarry will remain closed on Tuesday (July 2).
"Our continued thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family, as well as those who have been impacted in any way. We would like to thank all of the responders who so courageously tried to save the victim during the incident."
