A United States Navy SEAL was found not guilty for the murder of an ISIS prisoner in Iraq in 2017. Former Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher was accused of stabbing a wounded 17-year-old in the neck following an airstrike.
The trial took a shocking turn when Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott, a Navy medic, testified that while Gallagher stabbed the teen, Scott was the one who actually ended the teen's life. He told the court that he asphyxiated the prisoner as an act of mercy. He explained that fighter would have survived the stab wounds, but was worried about how he would be treated by Iraqi authorities. Scott was granted immunity for his testimony and will not face charges for his confession.
Gallagher was convicted on a charge of wrongfully posing for an unofficial picture with a human casualty.
