Authorities in Lufkin, Texas say they have identified the woman who went viral after licking a container of Blue Bell ice cream and then returning to the freezer at Walmart. They have not publicly identified the woman but wrote in a Facebook post that "appropriate charges will be filed."
The video was posted on June 28 and sparked an investigation across Texas. Officials received a tip that the woman was from San Antonio and began searching Walmart stores in the city to find a display case that matched the one in the video. They were unable to locate a similar freezer and any stores in the city.
Officials then began searching stores in Houston, after learning the woman may be living with her boyfriend in the city. When they came up empty-handed, Blue Bell asked its division managers to see if they could identify the display case in the video.
Within an hour, a manager Lufkin said that the display case in the store was likely the same one in the video. Blue Bell retrieved the tainted container of "Tin Roof" ice cream and removed all the containers from the store.
"Our biggest concern is consumer safety – in that regard, we are glad to see the tainted product off the shelves," Lufkin Director of Public Safety Gerald Williamson said.
