Watch Simone Biles Do A Flip No Woman Has Ever Done Before In Competition

July 23, 2019

Gymnastics - Artistic - Olympics: Day 4

Simone Biles is having a pretty good week. The 22-year-old Olympic gymnast won the U.S. Classic on Saturday (July 20) for the sixth year in a row. Biles' floor exercise stunned judges, despite the fact that one move left her out of bounds. The error didn't end up hurting Biles' score overall and secured the gold medal for herself.

While rehearsing her floor routine on Friday (July 19), Biles was spotted performing a flip no woman has done in a gymnastics competition before and the video is insane. The tumbling pass, known as the triple double, consists of two flips and three twists in a tucked position. Though Biles ultimately did perform this extra twisty tumbling pass at the U.S. Classic, the Olympic Channel reports that when she eventually includes the move in her floor route she will be the first woman to compete the skill. Check out the video here:

While she didn't include the triple double in her routine on Saturday, she did include another new move that really wowed spectators. The gold medalist added a front layout to her signature move, known as "The Biles, which is a double layout with a half turn. This is the move that landed her out of bounds in her routine, BTW.

“I definitely wanted to stay in bounds for one routine,” Biles told the AP. “But it’s more to work on. I overpowered it a little bit, but I’m kind of happy with it. I’d rather go over than under. At least I didn’t fly completely off of the floor.” Fingers crossed Biles includes that triple double into her routine ASAP! We can't wait to see her do it again.
