A ten-year-old boy from Michigan is facing charges of aggravated assault after he hit another child in the face with a ball during a game of dodgeball. The young boy, who has a medical condition which makes head injuries extremely dangerous, suffered a concussion, a black eye, and a bruised nose.
That boy's mother says the ten-year-old intentionally threw the ball at her son's face, and it wasn't the first time there was an issue on the playground.
"My son was hit twice in the face with a ball previously due to this," she told WXYZ. "The child apologized to my son, and my son said, 'Mom, it's OK. We're still going to be friends.'"
The ten-year-old, identified as Bryce Lindley, was suspended for one day, and his mother, Cameishi, thought that was the end of it. Three months later, she received a phone call from Wayne County Juvenile Court and was informed that Bryce had been charged with aggravated assault.
Cameishi says that her son did not know about the victim's medical condition and that he was just playing a game with his friends. She also questioned why the boy was playing the game when he had a serious medical condition.
"I couldn't believe it," Cameishi said. "This is a kid that was playing on the playground with his friends."
