The trailer for Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated Netflix debut has finally arrived. The upcoming gangster drama The Irishman is based on the true crime novel I Heard You Paint Houses, which tells the story of mafia hitman Frank Sheeran, who was rumored to be involved with the murders of President John F. Kennedy and union activist Jimmy Hoffa.
Robert De Niro stars as the titular Irishman, while Al Pacino co-stars as Hoffa. The film follows both characters across decades and the trailer debuts the 'de-aging' FVX used to depict the actors at much younger ages than they currently are in real life. While the trailer hides De Niro's de-aged face for much of the trailer, the last few shots show the 75-year-old actor looking significantly younger.
There's currently no release date for The Irishman yet, however, it was recently announced the film will open the 57th New York Film Festival on Friday Sept. 27. This will be the ninth collaboration between Scorcese and De Niro. The full cast includes a number of other A List stars in addition to De Niro and Pacino, including Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Ray Romano, and Jesse Plemons.
